Uxbridge RFC targeting promotion push despite four game winless run
Uxbridge Rugby Club’s captain has his eyes firmly set on promotion this season, despite the club’s tough start to the new campaign.
After a convincing victory over Old Isleworthians on the opening day, Uxbridge are without a win in their last four league games, despite halting a three-game losing streak with a thrilling draw against West London last weekend.
However, this hasn’t dampened Jake Lamport’s enthusiasm, with the Uxbridge captain hoping that a successful campaign lies ahead.
He said: “During the last two seasons we’ve had a bit of a poor campaign. We’ve ended up in the bottom half of the table. So, this year, our ambition is to achieve a top half finish and to try and push for promotion if possible. Our other goal is to get two teams out every single week when we’ve got fixtures.”
Uxbridge are also on the look-out for some new players and Lamport said the team will welcome anyone who may be interested in joining the club.

He said: “Position wise, we’re probably looking for some strong wingers to add to our first team. As a general rule though, we run two teams at Uxbridge and any player of any position is more than welcome to join. Our second team are ageing so there are gaps all over the place really.
“We take our rugby quite seriously in the first team but we always have a great laugh. We’ve got a really good team spirit at the moment. Everyone enjoys training and there are some good socials, not just in the Uxbridge area but going out to see Rugby games as well.”
Uxbridge train on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Uxbridge Sports Club and anyone interested in joining the club should contact Nick Guy or Jake Lamport.
