Uxbridge Rugby Club’s unbeaten start to 2018 came to an end on Saturday, as they were beaten 12-7 by Cuffley at home.
In what proved to be a closely fought encounter, it was Uxbridge who started the brightest, as good work from Jake Lamport, Mark Coles and Adam Webster allowed Sam Dillamore to power his way over the line. Fly half Mark Wils then added a further two points after a successful conversion.
Back came Cuffley, though, who converted a try of their own shortly after being awarded a penalty, and they levelled things up when the resultant conversion was scored.
Uxbridge introduced Lewis Edwards as they tried to find a way past Cuffley’s defence, but it was the away side who took the lead with their second try of the game. The visitors couldn’t add to their score-line though, as they missed the resultant conversion.
As the game entered the final few minutes, Uxbridge tried to force their way back into the game, but their attempts proved to be in vain, as Cuffley’s defence held firm to secure a vital win for the away side.
The result leaves Uxbridge in seventh place in the Herts and Middlesex second division.
Uxbridge return to action this weekend, with an away fixture against West London on Saturday, while their second team face a home tie against London Welsh Occies.
