Man dies and others injured in vehicle crash on Heathrow runway


A British Airways engineer has died after two vehicles collided on the Heathrow terminal five runway.

Yesterday, at around 6am, emergency services were called to a collision between two vehicles in terminal 5 next to B gates. A British Airways engineer, in his forties, suffered a cardiac arrest and died, despite paramedic attempts to save him.

Another man was sent to a West London hospital with a suspected broken shoulder.

More than twenty British Airways flights were delayed in Terminal 5 due to the incident, though the airport and terminal remained open throughout the day.

An investigation is currently underway with The Metropolitan Police and Heathrow airport. There have been no arrests.

Heathrow Airport, responded to the incident on Twitter, stating, ‘Following a serious accident involving two vehicles on our airfield, a British Airways colleague has passed away. Our deepest condolences go to the family and friends affected by this accident. We will be fully cooperating with the Police in the investigation which will follow.’
