Puddifoot: “I’m not surprised.” Leader of the Council address Tory victory in Hillingdon
Leader of the Council Ray Puddifoot was ecstatic after the Conservatives retained its majority in the Hillingdon Council elections.

Cllr Puddifoot said: “It comes as no surprise that we won. I’m delighted that Jeremy Corbyn showed up in the Borough…it helped our majority.”
The Conservative party won 44 seats in the election, an increase in two seats from the 2014 election.
Cllr Puddifoot said that this increase was due to Leader of the Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn visiting the borough in order to help canvas with the local Labour councillors.
Cllr Puddifoot added: “I think it is not unexpected. We were expecting to hold the administration again.”
Cllr Puddifoot was also critical of the Labour’s focus on Brexit and the recent Windrush and NHS scandals.
He said: “Move away from Brexit. You can’t do anything about Brexit [now].”
When asked about the possibility of candidates canvassing at universities more for the 2022 election Cllr Puddifoot said: “I think students have enough common sense to sort these things out for themselves.”
He also added that he believed that students are smart enough to look at what the Labour and Conservative candidates are proposing and to decide who will follow through with promises that they make.
The Conservatives won 44 seats and the Labour party won the remaining 21.
