Residents have spoken of their shock after a man died from a suspected gunshot wound within a short distance of their family homes in Hayes last night.

Police have launched a murder investigation into the death of a passenger, who was found with the wound after the Mercedes he was in crashed.

Officers were called at 2:43pm on Thursday, 11 October to Uxbridge Road at the junction with West Drayton Road.

A male passenger, in his 20s, was found suffering from a suspected gunshot. He was treated by an air ambulance but died at the scene from his injuries.

Police say the driver of the Mercedes has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

James Carson, 26, a photographer said: “I arrived shortly after the accident when the police and ambulances were arriving. There were around five cars involved. The police closed the road and the air ambulance arrived shortly after. Medics at the scene were trying to help.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We treated four people at the scene. Three people were treated at the scene for minor injuries and were taken to hospital. The other person, a man, sadly died despite the best efforts by our medics.”

Another local resident, Emma Burton, 22 said: “I have a young daughter so it’s scary that it happened right around the corner. Things like this don’t usually happen around here. It’s crazy that it happened so close to home.”

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command have been informed and are investigating. Enquires into the full circumstances of the incident are ongoing.

Any witnesses are urged to contact the police by calling 101 quoting CAD 4434/11 October.
