Krishna Society brings positivity to students
Universities across the country have been joining forces with the Krishna Consciousness Society to promote positivity and help students manage stress.
KC Society has been active since 1995, across 30 universities nation-wide, averaging at 96 members per society. The charity is funded by Bhaktivedanta Manor, and is run on a voluntary basis.
Sessions at Brunel run every Thursday from 6:30-8:30pm. Presented by Davina Padhiar 23, who volunteers for the charity, aiming to put students in touch with Eastern spiritual techniques.
Some of the past sessions have included discussions on, Who am I? and What would you do if you had 24 hours to live?
Intending to make students look at the world from different perspectives, through deep thinking. Each session ends with a free meal, great company, and amazing self-help tips.
Members are great at making ancient wisdom relevant for modern times through the Think Out Loud sessions.
This week students were introduced to meditation, encouraging tranquillity by pausing worried and frustrated thoughts. Davina said: “Meditating together brings more positivity”.
Key parts of the session which student said they enjoyed this week included, “food”, “discussions and meeting new people”, and the “meditation”.
This term, KC Society is hosting a day retreat on Saturday 17thNovember, at Bhaktivedanta Manor, Watford for £10.
The 70 acres of land, sponsored by George Harrison of the Beatles, is intended to be a day complete with mind, body and soul activities. The retreat includes cooking workshops, cow care, meditation and much more.
The retreat will bring together approximately 600 students from 30 different universities in a once in a life time experience.
