Coronation Street's Jason Grimshaw turns on the Uxbridge Christmas Lights

Christmas will officially spring into life in Uxbridge on Sunday when the town’s festive lights are switched on by a TV reality star.

This includes the Christmas parade through intu Uxbridge, including choirs and Christmas activities from 1pm.

Ryan Thomas from Coronation Street known as playing the character of Jason Grimshaw will be hosting the event. The lights will be turned on at 5pm.

Later this month, from November 26, intu will extend its opening hours for Christmas shoppers, opening from 9:30am-8pm on weekdays, and 9am-8pm on Saturdays and 11am-5pm on Sundays and Christmas Eve.

Along with all the festivity, Uxbridge opens its first traditional Christmas market in wooden chalets. It will run from November 15 and December 2. The market opens at 10am and closes between 6-9pm.

Laurie Taylor, general manager of intu Uxbridge said: “We’ll make sure this really is the most wonderful time of the year for you all, we can’t wait to see you there.”

Shoppers are being urged to be respectful towards shop workers who work endless hours to make sure customers get everything they want.

Kirsty Harragan, sales assistant at Gift Box, said, “Working in retail during Christmas is very busy and puts a lot of strain on the staff. “From making sure the shop is up to standards, to serving all the customers as quickly as possible.

“There is just so much to be done! Shop opening hours also extend meaning we are more tired and have less time celebrating Christmas with my family.”
