Bus company creates ‘cheap as chips’ journey from Brunel to Heathrow Airport

Students are celebrating after a bus service has reinstated a direct route from Brunel to Heathrow, meaning a cheaper and easier ride to the airport.

The route was axed in 2018, but after an influx of passengers, they have decided to introduce it again.

Carousel Buses has confirmed that the new route will stop at The Greenway bus station, which is a 6-minute walk from campus.

Lewis Bridges, 24, Sports & Exercise Psychology student at Brunel said: “I used to use the service when it went to Heathrow, and the bus stopping near uni was so convenient. I can’t wait to use it again. It will be cheap as chips.”

Hareen Kaur, 21, Life Sciences student at Brunel said: “I go to visit my family in New York all the time and spend £20 on taxis to Heathrow airport every time. I can’t believe how easy and cheap the new service will be.”

The service will link High Wycombe, Beaconsfield, Gerrards Cross and Uxbridge to the airport via luxury coaches. The first bus of the day will be timetabled to arrive at Heathrow at 03:40am and the last bus will depart Heathrow at 00:10am, and will run hourly, seven days per week.

The route has been made possible through "significant" financial support from the airport, which is hoping to encourage more people to travel to the airport in sustainable ways.

The new route will start on December 29th, with a single journey from The Greenway to Heathrow taking approximately 30 minutes. It will cost £4 per single journey and £6 a return.

Phil Southall, Carousel Buses managing director, said: “The reinstated service is fantastic news for airport workers and passengers living in the Chilterns. We are in talks for the next stage, where we plan to provide continuous improvements to our services, and make bus travel convenient and accessible to more passengers.”
