Netflix’s new series Bridgerton has taken the world by storm. From gorgeous costumes and scenery to raunchy scenes of romance, this show has something for everyone.

The series, based on the novels of Julia Quinn, follow the trials and tribulations of finding love in Regency Era London. Unlike most period pieces, Bridgerton is set in a fictional history, with a racially-integrated society, adding a modern viewpoint of what society look likes and providing the show a diverse cast. This alternate timeline of history adds much intrigue as well at the colourful and intriguing costumes, which have caused corset sales to rocket up.

The show’s first season focuses on the romance between Daphne Bridgerton, the eldest daughter, and Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings. Their storyline fronts the show and has many twists and turns, things are not easy sailing for the couple. The friends-to-lovers storyline is very pleasing to watch, the chemistry between the couple is clear to see and is we see the character development between the two.

However, the show follows multiple plot lines, including Anthony’s hardships with his love life and his role in the family, the Featherington’s family difficulties living under the Bridgerton’s shadow, the friendship between Eloise and Penelope and the overarching Gossip-Girl-esque mystery of Lady Whistledown. The constant guessing of the identity of Lady Whistledown drives the story through each episode and adds a new audience of people who may not be fond of period pieces.

All in all, Bridgerton is a show that will work for anyone, proven by its worldwide acclaim. It has also announced a second season now is the perfect time to tune in.
