Rule-Breakers Across London Accumulate Masses of Fines All Over the Capitol

Residents are being asked to stick to the rules concerning the closure of non-essential businesses.

Hillingdon council took to twitter to thank those who are "continuing to cooperate with government restrictions." The tweet also insisted that: "Rules on non-essential businesses remain- they must stay closed to protect people.” Adding “338 inspections took place last week. One business was fined £1,000 while another was fined £2,000 for Covid-19 breaches."

More than 10,000 coronavirus fines have been issued all across London since the first lockdown took place in March 2020.

Police have been permitted to pass on fines from £200 to £10,000, depending on how large the rule breaking groups are.

Over 350 of these fines were handed on London's public transport (TFL), for flouting rules such as not wearing a face covering.

This comes after the Prime Minister Boris Johnson enforced a lockdown across the country, stopping residents from mixing with other households, alongside with other restrictions such as the closure of non-essential shops and businesses.

Boris Johnson urged the country to follow rules. The PM said: “You may only leave home for limited reasons permitted in law.”, when announcing the third national lockdown back in January, earlier this year.

The Metropolitan Police are also now "urging Londoners to redouble their efforts to stop the spread of the virus by complying with the rules."
