Top 10 Netflix shows to help you through lockdown
As lockdown continues and we all start dreaming about June 21, what else is there to do but binge-watch TV shows? To fill your time and provide you some entertainment, JORDAN HAYTER lists ten shows currently on Netflix UK that are not to be missed:
BRIDGERTON:
If you haven't heard of Bridgerton, have you been living under a rock? The series revolves around the Regency London marriage market as a new gossip sheet spreads secrets and scandals. It's filled with raunchy romance, elaborate costumes, and twists and turns that will keep you entertained throughout the 8-part series. It is definitely not one to be missed.
THE QUEEN’S GAMBIT:
The Queen’s Gambit is another popular series. It is a coming-of-age period drama where a young girl reveals a remarkable talent for chess and begins an unlikely journey to stardom while grappling with her own issues. It touches upon sexism in the chess world and explores the true cost of genius.
BEHIND HER EYES:
This dark psychological thriller has shocked people worldwide with its twists and turns. The series revolves around a single mother who enters a world of mind games as she begins an affair with her psychiatrist while secretly befriending his mysterious wife. The ending has shaken its audiences and is definitely worth watching for.
FIREFLY LANE:
Firefly Lane is an American drama navigating the lives of two teenage girls in the 1970s, all the way through into their adulthood in the early-2000s. The show explores their ups-and-downs and focuses on the idea of friendship, causing it to be quite a lovable watch.
TRIBES OF EUROPA:
It’s 2070, and three siblings have set out to change the fate of Europe after a global catastrophe fractures it into countless micro-states fighting for dominance. Reminiscent of classic dystopian stories like The Maze Runner and Divergent, this series is definitely one for teen-fiction lovers.
THE OFFICE:
The American series of The Office has recently found its way to Netflix UK and is definitely a feel-good sitcom to watch during lockdown. It revolves around a group of office workers that go through hilarious misadventures. Already beloved, this seems to be the perfect time for a binge watch.
ARE YOU THE ONE?
What is lockdown without a cheesy American dating series? Last year we had Too Hot to Handle and this year we have Are You the One? This dating show from 2014 has recently been released onto Netflix. The show uses a dating algorithm to decide compatibility and tests couples to find their ‘perfect’ matches.
RUPAUL’S DRAG RACE:
Rupaul’s Drag Race US is going into its 13th season which seems to be its longest season ever, with multiple twists and turns. 13 drag queens compete against each other in multiple different challenges, from designing outfits, performing, comedy and impressions to become the season’s drag superstar. Filled with bright colours, big personalities and heartfelt moments, it will lift your spirits.
CRIME SCENE: THE VANISHING AT THE CECIL HOTEL:
Moving into the more sinister of the list, this documentary/re-enactment focuses on the Cecil Hotel, which has become notorious since guest Elisa Lam vanishes. The series delves into the story’s darkest elements and is gripping throughout.
NIGHT STALKER: THE HUNT FOR A SERIAL KILLER:
Another true-crime story, this time focusing on an evil serial killer beneath the sunlit glamour of 1985 LA. The docu-series focuses on the detective's hunt to bring the ‘Night Stalker’ to justice. It is another gripping watch, emphasised by its true story basis.
